Regeneration Street View snapshots

Google's new Street View application arrived in the UK last week. The tool lets you zoom in to many streets in cities across the UK and "drive" around looking at the street. On its launch Street View attracted controversy - the Daily Mail, for example, has branded it a "burglar's charter"...

But how do regeneration projects look on Street View?

Judging by the sunshine and the "let by" sign in my front garden, we can assume that the pictures were taken last summer, so many of the projects will be in a different state by now.

Here are five to get you started. Use the arrows in the top left hand corner of the viewer to rotate the image, and the + and - signs to zoom in and out. To move along a street, click one of the white arrows overlaid on the street to move in that direction.

1. Park Hill Estate, Sheffield

Walk around the estate, the refit of which was recently saved from stalling by the Homes & Communities Agency

2. Greenwich Millenium Village

No 39 on our Top 100 Regeneration Projects 2009. More than 1,000 homes have now been built at the first of the "Millennium Communities"



3. Leith Docks and Western Harbour, Edinburgh

Explore this massive scheme, which is the second largest in our Top 100

4. Westfield, London

Cruise the Westway past the now-completed huge mall-based regeneration scheme in west London. The scheme is still under construction on Street View.



5. Longbridge, Birmingham

The former car factory is a mass of open space on Street View as it awaits redevelopment
